Viking Muscle and Viking Metal

There has never been a better pair…

Viking Muscle and Viking Metal work so well together

As I have stated before, the Viking Muscle mantra is Black Coffee, Black Metal, and Heavy Weights.  Viking Metal is a slower relative of black metal that is based on lore and folk style melodies.  It has a hard driving ‘double bass’ style beat that can really pump you up.   The lyrical themes of the Viking Metal genre work very well to get you motivated and set some new PR’s.

The band I recommend to all Viking Muscle readers is a Finnish band named Ensiferum.  I was first turned on to Ensiferum when I was doing business with a company located in Turku, Finland.  Because I travel internationally for work, I spend at least 30% of my year in a hotel in a town that I can’t pronounce the name of.  I decided early on that I would do a quick workout every day regardless of my jetlag or location.  I found a nearby gym or, kuntosali.  The place was a very dark, very small room with a few old school iron weights, it was perfect.  The only employee there was a tall skinny guy with long blond hair, he was blasting this music into his shoe-box sized gym.

It fired me up!

I was operating on a few hours of terrible sleep that I managed to catch during the 18 hours of travel time I had crammed into economy seating.  That didn’t matter, I was really in my zone and the music helped me throw the rusty old iron weights around resulting in an incredible workout.

Getting yourself in the right mindset will make all the difference for you.  Approach every workout with the attitude that you are going to go heavier, run farther, faster, or punch harder than ever before and you will be pleasantly surprised at your ability to rise to the occasion.

That is why Ensiferum has found a permanent place on every workout playlist I put together.  The name Ensiferum translates to The Swordbearer, and thier songs follow the Nordic folk theme of preparing for battle and conquering your enemies.   Their new album, Unsung Hero’s promises to be some of their best work yet with the  feature song ‘In My Sword I Trust’.

Give it a try, the genre is very unique but it grows on you quickly.  After all, it’s the Viking way!
